England international Conor Coady has made the case for Cumbrian star Jarrad Branthwaite STAYING at Everton rather than making a big-money move this summer.
Former Carlisle United defender Branthwaite has been linked with Manchester United among other big clubs.
A lucrative move would also be of significant benefit to Carlisle through a sell-on clause.
Coady, though, feels that staying another season at Everton, where the Wigton star is "adored", would do his career prospects no harm.
Branthwaite was this week named players' player of the season at Goodison Park whilst also being named in England's provisional squad for Euro 2024.
“I look at someone now like Jarrad Branthwaite, who has been outstanding at Everton," Leicester City's former Toffees defender Coady told the BBC.
“Everyone has seen him linked with Manchester United and all these sorts of things.
“A little bit inside me thinks, 'I don't think it's a waste if you do another year' [at Everton].
“'Everton fans absolutely love you, they adore you, you are going to play every minute of every game, Sean Dyche loves you..."
Manchester United have been persistently linked with the 21-year-old Carlisle academy product and are expected to bid for the Cumbrian.
Reports this week suggested an £80m price tag could be on the talented defender, who is also said to be interesting Newcastle United.
United's potential sell-on benefits from a big-money Branthwaite move were said to be "significant" by Carlisle chief executive Nigel Clibbens at a fans' forum last season.
The percentage sell-on figure has not been officially disclosed. A report in the i this week claimed it was in the region of 15 per cent.
Branthwaite, who left Carlisle for Everton in January 2020 and shone in the Premier League last season, is one of three Cumbrians in the England training squad ahead of the Euros, along with goalkeepers Dean Henderson and James Trafford.
