Former Carlisle United manager Keith Curle is among the early bookies' favourites for the vacancy at Barrow.
The south Cumbrian club are seeking a head coach after the departure of previous boss Pete Wild last week.
Wild and the Bluebirds parted company after "differences" over the way forward at Holker Street, the club said in a statement.
Curle, United's manager from 2014 to 2018 before spells at Northampton Town, Oldham Athletic and Hartlepool United, waw the 4/1 second favourite for the position on Sunday afternoon with bookies Parimatch.
Ex-Blackpool, Dundee and Salford City chief Gary Bowyer was Evens favourite.
Those with longer odds than Curle in included former Everton star Leighton Baines, who is 6/1.
Dean Holden, Phil Parkinson and Kevin Phillips were among the 12/1 shots with Lee Johnson, who's also been linked with Cheltenham Town, priced 16/1.
Curle's last managerial role was with Hartlepool, where he was sacked in February 2023 after five months at the club.
Wild's departure from the SO Legal Stadium was confirmed on Friday after a period of speculation about his future.
He has moved on despite guiding Barrow into the League Two promotion race throughout last season before the Bluebirds missed out on the play-offs after a closing slump of two points from their last seven games.
In a statement, the south Cumbrian club said: "Following a post-season review Barrow AFC can confirm that it has today parted company with their manager Pete Wild.
"It became apparent during the review that the club and Pete had different perspectives on the way forward, so it was mutually agreed that this was the best and most appropriate way to proceed.
"We wish Pete well in his future endeavours."
Barrow added that Wild's backroom staff remain in place.
They will report to sporting director Iain Wood, who is leading the search for a new boss.
Barrow added they are seeking a "head coach".
