CUMBRIAN defender Jarrad Branthwaite 'should've been picked' by England boss Gareth Southgate for Euro 2024 according to Jamie Carragher.

The pundit and former Liverpool and England defender shared his views on Southgate's final 26-man squad that will travel to Germany on social media.

Carragher, who made 38 senior appearances for the Three Lions emphasised that the former Carlisle United defender should have been included in England's final Euro 2024 squad - calling him England's 'present and future'.

He said: "Lots of bigger names than Jarrad Branthwaite have missed out on the England squad, but he should’ve been picked to go to Euro 2024.

"He’s England’s present and future."

Branthwaite, who impressed at the centre of Sean Dyche's Everton defence during the 2023/24 Premier League season, has already received his fair share of plaudits from pundits, including Carragher, who earlier in the campaign had called him a 'special' talent.

He said: "Branthwaite has been outstanding.

"I think this lad is pretty special."
