Cumbrian speedway star Dan Bewley made it a hattrick last weekend with a third consecutive win in the British Championship.

The Maryport-born racer was crowned the 2024 British Champion in front of a near sell-out crowd at Belle Vue's National Speedway Stadium in Manchester.

Although he was only second top scorer after 20 heats he produced a superb pass in the final to take the lead from Tai Woffinden and went on to win.

He only won two of his five races earlier, but along with three second places it was enough to put him straight through to the final.

Tom Brennan, who had beat him in the final heat 20 topped the qualifiers with 13 points, one more than Bewley and those two went straight through to the final.

In a dramatic semi-final Woffinden produced an outrageous pass to get inside Chris Harris and Steve Worrall to win and make the final, in search of his fourth British title.

Woffinden was competing in the final for the first time in ten years and it looked as if he meant business, blasting into the lead.

But Bewley hunted him down and with a superb inside pass got to the front on lap three and stayed there for a hat-trick of victories in the prestige event.

Bewley said: “Three in a row is just awesome, and it’s such a cool meeting to come to. It’s one of the biggest meetings of the year for us, so to get three in a row is still surreal.

"Tai has got three in a row so for me to match that is pretty cool. He was in front in the Final and I knew it was going to be difficult to make something happen.
“But I just thought if I could stay on his back wheel and hope a door opens, and a little one did and I got through.

Bewley was one of four ex-Comets riders in the field, along with current Workington captain Craig Cook.

Although he won his second ride he only managed three thirds, finishing last in his penultimate race.
