FORMER Carlisle United midfielder Josh Dixon has signed a new one-year contract at Annan Atheltic.

Dixon has signed the extension which will keep him at the Scottish League One club for the 2024/25 season.

The former Carlisle United academy graduate suffered an injury-plagued debut season for Annan Atheltic but will remain at the club which are preparing for their first season under new manager Wullie Gibson.

Speaking on the club's website, he said: "I’m really happy to be signing again for the upcoming season as even though I had a bit of a tough time during my first season at the club with injuries I still enjoyed every moment.

"I’m very thankful towards Wullie after he experienced what I was going through, to then offer me the chance to play again this season.

"I can’t wait to get started again and repay him for giving me the opportunity.

"I’m buzzing to meet up with all the lads again and pick up from where we left last season.

Dixon will now look to stake a claim in Gibson's Annan Atheltic side in the Dumfries-born manager's first season at the helm following the departure of Carlisle United legend Peter Murphy to Queen of the South.

The 23-year-old midfielder was highly regarded in Carlisle United's youth set-up and would go on to make six first-team appearances for the Blues.

However, the young playmaker saw his developing Blues career hindered by a number of injury problems, including three cruciate ligament issues.

Dixon was released after 15 years at Brunton Park following the club's League Two playoff triumph at Wembley Stadium in May 2023.
