SCOTTISH goalkeeper Jude Smith has said that he is 'really happy' to have agreed a deal to sign for Carlisle United

The 21-year-old came through the youth ranks at Celtic before joining East Fife as a teenager.

The young goalkeeper then moved to Newcastle in the summer of 2022 and represented the Magpies in the Premier League 2 and EFL Trophy.

Smith will join the Blues following the expiration of his contract at St. James Park and once the transfer window officially opens on Friday, June 14.

After making the move from North East to North West, Smith spoke to the club's media team.

He said: "I am really happy to be here and I can't wait to get started.

"This is obviously a massive club and it is a huge opportunity.

"I know there are already a couple of good goalkeepers here so I will come in, try and push them, they will push me and I think that is what's best for the team.

"It's been a hard few months for me to be honest but I just can't wait to get out there and do what I enjoy and what I love doing."

In the Newcastle United ranks Smith regularly trained with England international Nick Pope and more recently Champions League finalist Loris Karius, however, ahead of his move to the Blues the young Scot is keen to kick on and make his own name between the sticks.

"I think I am at a stage where I need to try and push and play games," He said.

"I am obviously still young for a goalkeeper but I need to get my name out there and it is the perfect opportunity to come and play games, try and do well, and push on.

"I want to get the team back where they belong and get promoted again this season.

"I heard it was a struggle last season but I think with the manager and the backing of the board there is no reason why we cannot go and get promoted."
