FORMER Carlisle United midfielder Angelo Balanta has secured a move to non-league champions Hornchurch.

The playmaker, who was born in Cali, Columbia, has moved to the Hornchurch stadium after leaving Boreham Wood.

The 33-year-old joined Carlisle United in June 2015 and went on to make 10 appearances for the Blues during his 13-month spell at Brunton Park.

In this period, Balanta bagged a single goal for the Blues.

Following his departure from North Cumbria in July 2016, Balanta would go on to enjoy the most prolific spell in his career to date during two spells at Boreham Wood and five years at Dagenham & Redbridge, where he scored 60 goals in 242 appearances.

The former Blue has now signed for National League South-bound Hornchurch FC who finished the 2023/24 Isthmian Premier Division champions with 100 points.

After confirming the signing of Balanta, Hornchurch FC chairman Alx Sharp, speaking on the club's website, welcomed the ex-Carlisle United player.

He said: "I’m so pleased that we have been able to attract someone of Angelo’s talent and experience of playing at a higher level to the club.

"We saw the impact Sean Scannell’s skill and professionalism had on the whole squad last season and, in Angelo, we’ve signed a player who will make and score goals but also help our current players reach new levels as well with his wealth of experience.

"Angelo is a real crowd-pleaser and I know our fans are going to love him and give him a very warm welcome to the club."
