FORMER Carlisle United defender Jarrad Branthwaite has reportedly 'agreed terms' with Manchester United ahead of a potential move.
According to reports in The Times, the 21-year-old from Wigton has agreed terms with Erik Ten Hag's Manchester United that would see his earn in the region of £150,000 to £160,000 a week,
The Red Devils will now have to negotiate a fee with Branthwaite's current side Everton if they wish to complete the transfer, with reports suggesting that the Toffees are holding firm on their £70 million valuation.
This comes as Carlisle United stands to benefit from a 'significant' cash injection from a sell-on clause in Branthwaite's Everton contract, with more details on these revealed by Blues chief executive Nigel Clibbens on February.
More recently, Clibbens, speaking to the News & Star's Jon Colman, had highlighted that any windfall could be 'transformational' for Carlisle United, however, asserted that thanks to investment from the Piatak family, the club is not reliant on Branthwaite's potential transfer.
He said: "I've always said that Jarrad would be potentially transformational for this club."
"That's been my view all along, before he has become the player that he's become.
"With the journey the club’s been on, you have to give yourself a bit of a shake to say that, actually, that deal doesn't matter to this football club [in the same way] any more.
"Imagine saying that a year ago, that a potential transformational transfer of Jarrad doesn't now matter to us – it just makes things potentially even better.
"The owners didn't buy and invest in the football club on the basis that they were getting a sell-on from Jarrad Branthwaite. These decisions have been made independent of that."
Manchester United's pursuit of the Cumbrian defender also comes as Everton manager Sean Dyche and director of football Kevin Thelwell have previously stated the club will have to sell this summer to aid their financial position.
