HUNDREDS of fans attended Carlisle United's Euro 2024 fan zone as England made a winning start to their Euro 2024 campaign.

Despite the traditional Cumbrian weather, there was an outpouring of support from local Three Lions fans as Gareth Southgate's side took on Serbia in their European championship opener in Gelsenkirchen.

Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham's headed goal was watched on the Brunton Park screen as fans braved the downpour.

Carlisle's England fan zone began on Sunday, June 16 with the Three Lions' other Group C adversaries in action, with Denmark and Slovenia settling for a 1-1 draw.

As the evening progressed more local fans streamed into Brunton Park, with many taking up the club's offer to watch the early Group C kick-off under the cover of the Glass Bar.

However, as kick-off approached the rain eased off, and by God Save The King there was not an empty bench.

Despite Bellingham's early goal, the match was not straightforward for the Three Lions, with emotions rising and falling in the Brunton Park fan zone.

Cumbrian heads were in hands when Harry Kane's header struck the Serbian crossbar and relief filled the air when Jordan Pickford tipped over a goal-bound strike from Luka Jovic.

At the event, fans were also able to enjoy a number of amenities such as the Carlisle United bar, a barbecue, and food and drink from other local businesses such as The Greyhound Inn and John Watt & Son.

After the first England fan zone, Carlisle United expressed its delight with how the football festivities were not dampened by the adverse conditions.

A club spokesperson said: "We are delighted with how the Fan Zone has been received for the first two games.

"Despite the weather on Sunday, the attendance was fantastic and we’re looking forward to seeing even more fans at Brunton Park for the two games we have on this week."

The Brunton Park fan zone also hosted Scotland's 5-1 defeat against hosts Germany on Friday, June 14 and is set to show both England and Scotland's remaining group games.
