Joel Senior, who was released by Carlisle United a year ago, has been handed a League One chance by Bristol Rovers.
The right-sided defender has joined the Pirates on a two-year deal after leaving Morecambe.
Senior, 25, was let go by the Cumbrians after their promotion from the fourth tier, the ex-Altrincham man having played a key part in their play-off games.
He moved on to Morecambe and, after impressing for the Shrimps in League Two last term, now steps up a division.
His deal at the Memorial Stadium comes with the option of a third year as he becomes Rovers' sixth summer signing.
Speaking about his move on the Gas'Â website, the ex-Blues man said: "When I first heard about the chance of coming to Rovers, I wanted to jump at the opportunity.
Our sixth summer signing 🙌

Welcome to the Gas, Joel Senior đź‘Š
"This is a big club with a superb fanbase, and has everything a footballer would want.
"I’ve been told about the club’s ambitions and how they align with the manager’s vision, and I can’t wait to help fulfil those targets."
Rovers boss Matt Taylor added: "Joel has showcased his energy, fitness and talent at full-back in recent seasons and I am looking forward to seeing what he can bring to our squad.
“Having just turned 25, Joel still has the best years of his career ahead of him and I am confident he will get even better with us.”
Ex-Burnley prospect Senior joined United in January 2022 but an ACL injury early into his Blues spell soon put him onto the sidelines.
He returned to action a year later and went on to play his part in United's dramatic 2022/23 run-in.
Senior was involved in the attack that led to Omari Patrick's unforgettable equaliser in the play-off final against Stockport County as Carlisle fought back before winning on penalties.
He made 21 appearances and scored one goal in his time at Brunton Park, while last season he was Morecambe's player of the season.
He turned down the chance to remain at the Lancashire club, where ex-Carlisle captain Danny Grainger is now assistant manager to the returning Derek Adams.
