Flowers have been laid at Brunton Park in memory of Andrew Jenkins - close to the stand named after him.

Carlisle United invited supporters to leave tributes to the long-serving former owner and chairman at the memory garden, situated behind the East Stand, which was named after Mr Jenkins last year.

Some bouquets had been laid by this afternoon following Wednesday's news of Mr Jenkins' death.

The tributes to Mr Jenkins add further poignancy to the memory garden as they sit alongside those left in memory of former United youth coach David Wilkes, who died a year ago last month.

United, when announcing Mr Jenkins' passing, said: "Fans are welcome to lay flowers in memory of Andrew at the memory garden here at Brunton Park, which is behind the Andrew Jenkins Stand.

Mr Jenkins' business, Pioneer Foodservice, have meanwhile paid a heartfelt tribute.

In a post on social media, they wrote: "It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our chairman, Andrew Jenkins.

"Andrew joined Pioneer in the 1950s working for his father, Bob. He became Managing Director in the 1970s, overseeing great changes and expansion for our business.

"He became a ‘pioneer’ of his time and was integral in seeing the business develop and move to Rosehill.

"He also ambitiously expanded into the north east of England, opening a depot in Gateshead. His foresight and judgement have helped our business be what it is today.

"In the 1990s, Andrew passed his legacy onto his sons, Graham and David, and he became chairman of Pioneer Foodservice.

"He might have been in his 80s, but he still loved and enjoyed playing an active role in our business.

"He was known for being a true gentleman and his wit and jokes will remain in everyone’s memories, notably his recollections of his army days. Andrew’s love for football and Carlisle United knew no bounds and he was immensely proud when a stand was named after him last year.

"He will be sorely missed by all those who worked with him and loved him.

"Our thoughts are with his wife, Diane, and all of Andrew’s loved ones at this very sad time."
