Workington Reds manager Mark Fell hopes patience can be a virtue when it comes to making more signings.
The Reds boss is hoping to time his moves right in the transfer market ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
Fell believes some potential targets who are not currently available will be reachable in the coming weeks.
He says holding out for those players is a better approach than jumping the gun with other signings just to fill the squad.
Fell has cash to spend after the impressive fundraising efforts of Reds fans with their ‘budget booster’ initiative.
“It’s all at my disposal at the moment,” he told the News & Star.
“We’ve got what we need, but we won't be held to ransom over that.
“We'll make sure we get the right player, or players – but it's about being brave, it’s about not blinking too early.
“I think there will be players that become available in the next two or three weeks, and we've got to be at the front of the queue.
“I don't want us to over-recruit early and potentially miss out on something that could make us better.”
Workington’s additions so far this summer include Steven Swinglehurst, Josh Galloway, Kai Nugent and Alex Mitchell.
Former Lancaster City boss Fell has also been running the rule over a number of trialists including defenders Charlie Barnes and Tom Wilkinson while another trialist, Romeo Park, is set to join Carlisle City.
The Workington boss could also look to bring back some of Carlisle United's teenage prospects on loan, with further talks planned with the Blues soon.
Reds, who held Carlisle United 0-0 on Saturday, are back in pre-season action at Penrith tonight (Leo Group Stadium, 7.30pm).
After that it is more EFL opposition when Morecambe – whose assistant boss is the former Reds manager Danny Grainger – visit Borough Park on Saturday.
Workington’s fixtures for the 2024/25 Northern Premier League Premier Division are due to be released this week.
