A teenage eventer from Cumbria is set to represent Britain at the Pony European Eventing Championships in Germany.

15-year-old Maisie Greening and her 11-year-old mare Kilnaspic Lily have caught the selectors' eyes, securing their place in the British team after an impressive season.

The young duo have only been together since December but have already earned seven top-ten placings, including first place at Frenchfield and Breckenbrough in May in the BE100Ou18, finishing on their dressage score of 24.30.

The championships occur from July 31 to August 4, and Miss Greening is part of a chosen six, with three reserves.

British Eventing’s CEO Rosie Williams said: "This is a great adventure for them and we hope they come back successful, but most importantly, have a great time and make the most of the amazing experience."

Head of youth, Darrell Scaife said: "Selectors have chosen combinations best placed to compete in Westerstede.

"The squad is strong, and each rider has the ability to perform extremely well."

Miss Greening, who is a member of the Cumberland Farmers Hunt North PC, said: "It feels so exciting and an honour to be selected.

"It’s been my dream for years to represent Great Britain at the Pony Europeans and I’m so lucky to be chosen with Lily."

Meanwhile, fellow Cumbrian eventer Robyn Gray has also been enjoying a successful season, winning the BE100 at Forgandenny with First True Wish, clear on a dressage score of 26.

Tara Kane and Annaveigh Vahey came in sixth, also with a clean sheet, and Jo Beattie secured ninth place with Ludo.

Caitlin Gribbon finished seventh in the BE90 with Daring Exit after a clean dressage and Lorraine Mackenzie Strong was fourth in the BE80 with Chris.

At the Great Yorkshire Show, Emma Burrow and Orcaber Bluebell were third in the Ridden Native/Cob qualifier.

Milly Philipson and Drumacre Sir Patrick came third in the Ridden non-native pony qualifier.
