A Carlisle youth sports team have hit a ‘significant milestone’ after two members became junior world champions.
The Elite Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) junior world championship took place in Wolverhampton on July 13 and 14 bringing together some very talented young athletes who have trained hard in BJJ.
Among the competitors was the ‘Radgie Rollers’ team from Carlisle.
The Radgie Rollers, consisting of eight talented children, made a strong impression at the championship.
The team members included Teddy Anderson, 9, Maisie Rickerby, 9, Maisie Cornally, 9, Ricky Malner, 16, Phoenix Barker, 12, Owain Jones, 12, Corin Rees, 15, and Luca Rees, 11.
Each of these young athletes demonstrated remarkable skill and determination, showcasing the results of their rigorous training and dedication to the sport.
The highlight of the championship for the Radgie Rollers was the performance of Maisie Rickerby and Corin Rees.
Maisie and Corin both clinched gold medals, earning the title of world champions in their respective categories.
Their victories are a testament to their ‘hard work, perseverance, and focus’ according to coach, Kit Wilson who expressed his pride in his team’s achievements.
"I am incredibly proud of everyone for their dedication and hard work,” said Kit.
“Winning gold at such a prestigious event is a huge accomplishment.
“The entire team has shown great spirit and skill, and their performances reflect the countless hours of training they’ve put in.
“The success of the Radgie Rollers at the Elite BJJ World Championship is a significant milestone for the team. It highlights the potential of these young athletes.

“The championship not only provided a platform for these young talents to shine but also offered them valuable experience and exposure to international competition.
