Former Carlisle United midfielder Josh Dixon fired his first goal for Annan Athletic in terrific style.

The Cumbrian's maiden strike for the Scottish League One side came in their impressive 3-0 win at Arbroath in the Premier Sports Cup.

And Carlisle-born Dixon made his mark on the game with a stylish effort from outside the area in the 56th minute (watch below).

The powerful left-footed strike was the 23-year-old's first goal in 20 appearances for the Galabank club.

It comes early into Dixon's second campaign with Annan, after his move north of the border last summer.

Dixon has started two and been a substitute in one of Annan's three group games so far, with the side having made a positive start to the campaign under new boss Wullie Gibson.

Dixon is looking to make further progress in his career after battling back from the serious injuries than blighted his time at Carlisle.

The young midfielder showed immense character to recover from three ACL injuries which he suffered in the latter stages of his youth team spell and his early professional years.

Dixon, who had come through the academy ranks at Brunton Park, played the full 90 minutes at Arbroath as goals from Tommy Goss and ex-Carlisle man Josh Todd sealed their emphatic victory.

Gibson's side sit top of Group D in the Premier Sports Cup after their three games, which have also seen victory over Inverness Caledonian Thistle, and a draw followed by shoot-out defeat against Bonnyrigg Rose.

They are next in action at Scottish Premiership side Dundee on Tuesday.
