Everton are reportedly set to offer Jarrad Branthwaite a lucrative new deal to fend off interest from Manchester United.
The Cumbrian star has been linked with the Red Devils all summer and two offers were rebuffed by the Goodison Park club.
And fresh reports suggest Everton are set to make a new attempt to convince the England international to stay.
The Mirror say Everton will offer the former Carlisle United defender, from Wigton, a "vastly improved" deal.
It follows reports that Man Utd were preparing to offer the defender a £160,000-a-week deal, only for the Old Trafford club's bid for Branthwaite to fall short of the Toffees' valuation, which is said to be in the £70-80m region.
Man Utd, amid their pursuit of Branthwaite, have paid £52m for Lille defender Leny Yoro, while they are linked with Bayern Munich's Matthijs de Ligt.
Any big-money move for the Cumbrian could have major benefits to Carlisle United, through a sell-on clause in the deal which took him from Brunton Park to Goodison in 2020.
Branthwaite is back in pre-season training with Everton, and has also spoken about his ambition to win more England caps.
The Cumbrian made his full Three Lions debut in a friendly against Bosnia & Herzegovina in the build-up to Euro 2024, before he was left out of Gareth Southgate's squad for the finals in Germany.
Reflecting on his Three Lions’ debut – a 3-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina – he discussed his future aims in international football.
“It’s a dream come true,” Branthwaite said, speaking on Everton's website about his first England outing.
“I think for any young kids, growing up, to represent their country is the main objective.
"For me to able to do that – with my family there, as well – it was massive. Not just for me, but for all of my family and friends, as well. It was a great experience.
“I want to play for England as many times as I can. It’s about putting in performances for club out there for whoever the next England manager is going to be, and to impress them. Hopefully I get many more opportunities.”
