Cumbrian striker Ryan Bowman has joined one of Carlisle United's League Two rivals.

The Carlisle-born former Blues forward has signed a one-year deal with Cheltenham Town.

Bowman makes the move to Gloucestershire after his release from Shrewsbury Town at the end of last season.

The 32-year-old spent three years with the Shrews but now links up with Michael Flynn's Robins.

It is the latest move in the career of the Cumbrian, who started out in United's academy.

He came through the youth set-up and was a prolific scorer for Carlisle's under-18 side and earned a professional deal.

After nine substitute appearances for his home-city club, Bowman moved on and had spells with Darlington, Hereford, York City, Torquay United, Gateshead, Motherwell and Exeter City.

He is set to make his Cheltenham debut in Friday night's pre-season friendly against Bristol City.

Bowman will come up against the Blues in the new 2024/25 campaign with the Robins who, like Carlisle, were relegated from League One last season.

United host Cheltenham on October 26, and go to the EV Charger Points Stadium on April 26.
