Omari Patrick faces an early-season reunion with Carlisle United after signing for their League Two rivals Tranmere Rovers.

He has joined the Wirral club on a one-year deal after impressing on trial.

Patrick, 28, was a free agent after turning down a new deal with relegated Sutton United at the end of last season.

The attacker now links up with Nigel Adkins' side - who face Carlisle at Brunton Park on August 31.

United's 2023 Wembley goalscorer Patrick scored in a midweek appearance for Tranmere against Blackpool and has done enough to earn a permanent stay.

“I’m very excited to start my time at Tranmere Rovers," said Patrick, speaking on the Tranmere website.

"I’ve been here for about two weeks and I’ve been welcomed ever since I got here so now I can’t wait for the season to get going and do what I know I can do.”

Manager Adkins added: “We are delighted to welcome Omari Patrick to Tranmere Rovers.

"The experienced attacker has impressed during the last few weeks he has been with us and we are looking forward to working with him over the coming season as he joins our ambitious, hard-working squad of players.”

Patrick is reunited with former Carlisle team-mate Kristian Dennis at Prenton Park.

The former Bradford City man had two spells on United's books between 2020 and 2023 making 109 appearances in total and scoring 21 goals.

The most famous of those goals was the late equaliser at Wembley in 2023's League Two play-off final against Stockport County, which took the game to extra-time and then penalties as Carlisle won promotion.

He turned down the chance to stay at Brunton Park after promotion, insisting he wanted to play as a winger - something Paul Simpson could not guarantee him.

The former Burton Albion attacker moved on to Sutton and made 43 appearances for the south London club, who finished second bottom of League Two in 2023/24 and returned to the National League.

Patrick duly turned down the offer of a new contract at Gander Green Lane. As well as the Brunton Park encounter in late August, Patrick and his new side will host Carlisle on January 4.
