Carlisle United fans gave us their views on X after the 2-1 victory over Stockport County in the last pre-season friendly.
Here is a selection of their comments.
Better. Definitely short a number 10 and likely at least 1 if not 2 midfielders but this was a big game for pre-season after the last two games. Onto Saturday (@parkinsonross)
Solid. Impressed by the back line. And the front. Middle ok too but may need some more bodies, just in case (@cufcman56)
First half Wyke and the new guy made it difficult with their strength and both the wing backs look like good finds and they both have decent set piece delivery which could be key (@NavyDave94)
Wingbacks looked really effective today as did the new lad up front, his pace made sure Stockport defenders were nervous about pushing too far upfield which really helped us. Need some pace/guile in midfield but was an encouraging performance! (@stewelsh)
An improvement from recent games. The wing backs both looked much more threatening and the loanee looks an excellent addition. Concerned with midfield injury situation so somewhere we may need to strengthen. (@Glass942)
Alarmist bed wetting criticism silenced with one performance. We have strength in defence and depth in attack. However, any realist can see that with Guy and now Robson and potentially McGeouch out we are lacking a midfield playmaker badly! (@MarkWhitfield2)
Played well…. Very impressed with the new back line (@TonyRob777)
Much better. Wing backs were excellent. New lad from Bournemouth looks a handful. Definitely need to strengthen the midfield this week. (@MikeTurney7)
A much improved performance today, impressed with the new wing backs and Dan up front. Desperately crying out for some quality midfielders with pace and creativity if we are going to challenge for promotion. A bit more positive for the start of the season (@Norther42188430)
There was a lot to like today, hard to judge as Stockport quality was unknown. We will find out a lot after the Gillingham game (@peterjo91525330)
Good performance but need more midfielders after the injuries (@liamedmo11)
High energy performance with a very direct style of play. Both wing backs looked comfortable going forward, key to playing that formation. (@Gaz92Richardson)
Simmo got no excuses now, he's got the money to go and sign two good midfield players before next week's opener against Gillingham (@GeoffRo39583097)
Think Barclay deserves some praise. Played well in front of the back line (@ScottWa86429195)
Big improvement lots of hope for the new season (@Stevenmcleancuf)
After hearing about pre season doom + gloom was pleasantly surprised in today's performance. Standing out were Neal + Mellish. 2 new full backs looked good + 45mins of new boy Dan was a breath of fresh air. Very promising. Up the blues (@ericgreen866)
So much better, two wing backs outstanding, nice to see decent set piece delivery (@matty017)
Lots of positives, even Barclay in midfield worked well. I would like a new central midfielder who can boss that area. We were strong on the right, strong on the left, but there is an opportunity to be stronger in the middle. (@adydent67)
This type of performance is just what’s needed, give everyone a big boost. It’s maybe that we still need a couple of more bodies for midfield. But what a difference, solid in defence lots of options up top, really started to look a team. Set piece delivery was great too (@IanWsanderson)
