Gillingham’s new boss Mark Bonner could be without some key players for their opening League Two game against Carlisle United.
Summer striker signing Elliott Nevitt is an injury doubt along with fellow frontman Josh Andrews.
Midfielder Ethan Coleman also looks set to miss out but keeper Jake Turner is expected to be fit and another new face, midfielder Armani Little, is hoped to be ready.
Saturday’s visit of the Blues is Bonner’s first competitive game in charge after he replaced Stephen Clemence at the helm.
Gillingham went through pre-season unbeaten, while they have not lost at home in the league since January.
Former Cambridge United boss Bonner says he is relishing the new campaign.
“I am excited to see Priestfield properly,” the Gills boss told Kent Online.
“I am excited about all of the things that brings, to see the players at their maximum in that scenario, it is why we do it.
“I can’t wait to get going and I hope the players are excited.
“We have done five weeks of really good work, building some partnerships, building some understanding in our style, with loads of improvements still to make.
“On Monday [we came in] with a slightly different focus towards the games. We have had lots of good games, lots of different types of games and now we start with a great one to look forward to.
“We need to try and make sure we are at the best level we can be to get a good result this week and then same again, rinse repeat for every three days for about nine months…”
Among the new signings who could figure for the Kent club against the Blues are Peterborough United loan frontman Jacob Wakeling, ex-Enfield Town hotshot Marcus Wyllie, former Accrington Stanley wide man Jack Nolan and ex-Charlton Athletic midfielder Euan Williams.
