Carlisle United claimed a 1-0 win over Barrow AFC – how did we rate the players at Brunton Park?
HARRY LEWIS – 6
Not besieged with shots, such was United’s defending and Barrow’s sub-standard attacking. But keeper showed good judgement to punch one cross while a good late claim eased pressure en route to welcome clean sheet.
AARON HAYDEN – 7
A strong aerial presence and was sharp and committed on the ground when Carlisle needed to keep their opponents at bay.
TERELL THOMAS – 7
Against the towering Acquah, Thomas gave a full-frontal and error-free first-half defensive showing, before hamstring niggle meant he was replaced at break.
JON MELLISH – 6
Gave his all, as ever, and his battling defensive work was an important part of things, while his attacking surges were less striking on this occasion.
ARCHIE DAVIES – 7
Continues to look a good find, Davies showing pace and positivity at right wing-back, giving United a vital outlet especially at times they were under pressure.
BEN WILLIAMS – 6
Has slotted in very capably and looks a solid performer at left wing-back. Williams and his colleagues had a tricky opponent in Mahoney but he contributed well until knock forced him off.
BEN BARCLAY – 6
Again in a midfield role, Barclay filled some good spaces and was good in the air as Carlisle established their first-half foothold. Use of ball was generally sound.
HARRISON NEAL – 7
Didn’t give Barrow’s midfielders a moment’s peace and his tackling against his former club was aggressive and proactive in United's best spell; a strong contribution.
JOSH VELA – 7
An industrious showing from Vela, who was also keen to make his mark with some sharp tackling. Left nothing in the tank and a couple of good runs posed danger.
CHARLIE WYKE – 6
Led the line with his usual willing even if nothing particularly came off in terms of chances. Barrow generally kept him away from the real danger zone but his work still helped create space for others. Namely…
DANIEL ADU-ADJEI – 8
The star of this much-needed win, Adu-Adjei was busy and focused in his front running, took his chance with great composure and continued to pester Barrow’s defenders.
Subs: Sam Lavelle – 7 – Committed contribution to clean sheet.
Georgie Kelly – 6 – Worked to give United late focal point.
Jack Ellis – 6 – On for Williams in testing late period.
Dan Butterworth – 6 – Few chances to really run at Barrow.
Star man – Daniel Adu-Adjei – United needed composure and clarity on a tense derby day and they got it from their youngest player, who was a clear man of the match.
