Carlisle United are optimistic that the injuries which forced Terell Thomas and Ben Williams off against Barrow are not serious.

Centre-back Thomas was replaced at half-time while wing-back Williams went off in the second half.

Manager Paul Simpson said Thomas felt some discomfort in his hamstring during the first half and United decided not to risk him after the break.

Simpson said Thomas did not feel the muscle “go” but it was concerning enough not to take a chance in the second half.

“I’m hoping it's precautionary,” Simpson told the News & Star.

“He [Thomas] said he felt a little twinge when he tried to push off in the corner, about 20 minutes from the end of the first half.

“We looked at it at half-time and felt it wasn’t worth taking a risk, and we had Sam Lavelle able to come on in his place.

“I haven't asked again since the end of the game, but he's moving okay.

“We'll assess it over the next couple of days and hope it's nothing serious.”

Fears of a lay-off for another left-sided player, meanwhile, appear to have been allayed in the case of Williams.

He was substituted in the 75th minute as Jack Ellis took the new signing’s place.

“I think he got a whack above his shin or something like that,” said Simpson.

“He got a whack at Gillingham and then he got another one today.

“He wants to play football and I think he'll be okay.”

United are already short of left-sided cover with Cameron Harper, Jack Robinson and Taylor Charters all on the sidelines.

Williams put in another good performance on his home league debut as United claimed their first win of the campaign.

Absent from the team sheet, meanwhile, was striker Luke Armstrong.

United said they had allowed the forward to be with his partner after she went into labour on Friday evening.
