Workington Reds claimed the first win of the Mark Fell era with a 2-0 victory at Prescot Cables.

The west Cumbrians saw off their hosts to chalk up their first victory at the fourth attempt in the Northern Premier League Premier Division season.

Reds went ahead through Preston North End loanee Kaedyn Kamara before a second-half goal from Steven Rigg secured the points.

Fell's back line kept the home side at bay to record a first clean sheet of 2024/25 as Reds moved onto five points from their first four games.

The win follows a defeat to Guiseley and draws with Lancaster City and Leek Town, Reds now unbeaten in three and up to tenth in the table under new manager Fell ahead of Saturday's trip to Ashton United.

In Northern League Division One, meanwhile, there was a draw for Carlisle City and defeat for Penrith.

Dan Kirkup's City were held 1-1 at home by Guisborough Town.

City led at the break through a Jordan Irving strike but the visitors earned a point after the break thanks to Dylan McAvoy's effort 11 minutes from time.

Kirkup's fourth-placed side are unbeaten in four games and are on home soil again this Saturday when they face Boro Rangers.

Darren Edmondson's fifth-placed Penrith, meanwhile, went down to a 1-0 defeat at Marske United.

James Sayer's header shortly before the break proved enough for the north east outfit as Penrith fell to a second defeat of the league season.

Next up it is FA Vase action for Penrith as they travel to Ilkley Town in the first qualifying round on Saturday.

Cumbria's other Northern League Division One side, Kendal Town, were beaten 2-0 at Birtley Town.
