Carlisle United fell to a 3-0 defeat at MK Dons – so how did we rate the players at Stadium MK?
HARRY LEWIS – 5
Could do little about the first two goals, when he was left badly exposed. After a few routine saves, beaten from an angle for the third.
AARON HAYDEN – 5
Looked to be combative in defence and in the visiting box but hosts had too much joy, balls forward offered little control and Dons' late third down that side capped a bad day.
SAM LAVELLE – 5
The replacement for Thomas made a couple of chance-denying challenges and interceptions, but Carlisle’s close-range marking came adrift for first two goals.
JON MELLISH – 4
Made a couple of promising attacking raids which did not come with enough quality at the end, while defensively could not shut down MK’s dangerous right side - then the Blues lost possession after a throw as hosts rammed in a third.
ARCHIE DAVIES – 5
One of United’s livelier early-season players was unable to get forward enough as hosts set the tone. A couple of later inroads offered promise but these were isolated moments.
BEN WILLIAMS – 4
Almost had an assist in the first minute, but after that this was a rough day for Williams, who was tormented by Nemane.
BEN BARCLAY – 4
In the midfield utility role again, Barclay had played a solid role against Barrow but against the more fluent MK, he was regularly outmanoeuvred and hooked at half-time.
JOSH VELA – 4
Could not lay a glove on Williamson’s possession-heavy midfielders nor apply some attacking momentum for Carlisle on a dire afternoon overall.
CHARLIE WYKE – 4
United’s general play did not offer their frontmen inviting service but nor did Wyke ever threaten to break the torpor with something of dangerous quality.
DANIEL ADU-ADJEI – 5
Got on the end of a couple of things and in that respect his instincts were good, but the finish did not come and frustration was the result.
Subs: Dominic Sadi – 6 – Some brightness in the gloom.
Luke Armstrong – 5 – Put himself about in box but didn’t result in enough.
Jack Ellis – 6 – Linked some left-sided moves well.
Georgie Kelly – 4 – Yet another injury nightmare.
Dan Butterworth – 5 – Frustrating late cameo.
Star man – Nobody deserved this billing on such a sub-standard day. Adu-Adjei got into some decent positions and Sadi showed a bit of spark, but Carlisle were well short overall.
