Carlisle United fell to a 2-1 home defeat to Tranmere Rovers – how did we rate the players at Brunton Park?
HARRY LEWIS – Beaten by two precise Patrick finishes, one punch caused needless panic, otherwise little to do in terms of saves. 5
AARON HAYDEN – His commitment and aggression were as clear as ever but it wasn’t a secure day defensively at key moments. 5
TERELL THOMAS – Back from injury but struggled to dominate in defence, Thomas was turned at times when Tranmere troubled Carlisle. 5
JON MELLISH – Visitors got in from United’s left in the first half while Mellish, in midfield after break, got into good positions without delivering. 5
ARCHIE DAVIES – Involved in Carlisle’s best spell and did well to bring them level, and remained one of United’s brighter players even though second-half inspiration was lacking in general. 6
BEN WILLIAMS – A hard-working display but could not do enough to influence a second comeback in his wing-back role. 5
HARRISON NEAL – Looked to put himself about but United’s midfield continues to appear sluggish in their passing and movement compared with others. 4
JOSH VELA – Made very little impact on the game however hard he worked, and was replaced on the hour mark. 4
JORDAN JONES – United’s big new signing showed flashes, including some good early set-pieces and cross that led to Davies' goal, while he arrived onto a couple of chances. But later deliveries were not on the mark. 5
CHARLIE WYKE – Had one decent first-half chance but produced very little afterwards, and Carlisle need more than this from their captain. 4
DANIEL ADU-ADJEI – Looked alert early on to put pressure on Tranmere’s Davies, and almost got Carlisle into some good positions, but it never quite happened. 5
Subs: Dominic Sadi – Tried to get on ball but couldn’t create enough. 5
Jack Ellis – Replaced Williams on the left late on, booked. 5
Ben Barclay - Filled in for Hayden, tried in vain to add to comeback bid. 5
Luke Armstrong – Half-chances but not the moment United needed. 5
Star man – Archie Davies – Not a performance full of candidates to say the least, though Davies was bright in scoring his first United goal and was as sharp as anyone.
