Carlisle United duo Jon Mellish and Gabe Breeze have both been shortlisted in the North West Football Awards.

Versatile defender Mellish is on a four-man shortlist for the region's League One player of the season award for 2023/24.

And young goalkeeper Breeze is in the running for the Rising Star award.

The nominations have been revealed by the award organisers today with voting now open.

Mellish, 26, was widely regarded as one of United's stronger performers in an otherwise poor relegation season.

The club's longest-serving player, who was a league ever-present in 2023/24, is up against Bolton Wanderers midfielder Josh Sheehan, Fleetwood Town captain Brendan Wiredu and Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Sam Tickle.
