A Brampton secondary school has said that it is absolutely thrilled after an ex-student won a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Anna Nicholson, who formerly attended Brampton's William Howard School won the F35 bronze medal on Thursday, September 5 at the Stade de France.

Anna's throw of 9.44m in adverse Parisian conditions was enough to hoist her onto the podium in her second Paralympic Games, following a sixth-placed finish at the Tokyo Paralympic Games in 2021.

The throw that won Anna the bronze was also 0.03m off her 9.47 personal best which she threw at the  World Para Athletics Grad Prix in the French capital earlier this year.

Anna was first introduced to athletics at William Howard School by then head of P.E. Lenny Miller, starting her on a path towards Paralympic glory.

"It's worth all the hard work that I've put in for the past ten years," Anna said after claiming the bronze medal.

Speaking after watching their ex-student claim Paralympic bronze, William Howard School shared their delight.

They said: "We are absolutely thrilled for Anna Nicholson, winning a bronze medal this morning at the Paralympics in Paris.

"An ex-student of WHS, Anna secured her medal in the women’s F35 shot put with a brilliant throw of 9.44m."

Tracey Croucher, William Howard School's inclusive sports lead also spoke about how she knew Anna was destined for sporting success after witnessing her skill and determination firsthand.

She said: "Anna’s talent for throwing was first spotted at an inclusive athletics event at Penrith. She has worked so hard for her success, and it is wonderful to see how well she is doing."
