A look at some of the latest news and gossip from around Carlisle United's division.

SPIREITES SIGN FLECK

Chesterfield have gone into the free agent market to sign Scotland international midfielder John Fleck.

The 33-year-old former Rangers, Sheffield United and Coventry City man has signed a deal with the Spireites until the end of the season.

“I’m delighted to be here. I’ve been training here for just over a week and the opportunity has come up to sign until the end of the season, so I’m really happy,” Fleck told the club website.

AWARD NOMINEES NAMED

The line-up for League Two’s first monthly awards of the campaign has been revealed.

The SkyBet manager of the month shortlist consists of Gillingham’s Mark Bonner, Barrow’s Stephen Clemence, AFC Wimbledon’s Johnnie Jackson and Walsall’s Mat Sadler.

Up for the player of the month prize are Walsall’s Connor Barrett, Chesterfield’s James Berry, Notts County’s Jodi Jones and Doncaster Rovers’ Luke Molyneux.

GILLS BID TO REMOVE SCALLY

Gillingham’s board have called a shareholders’ meeting to consider removing former owner Paul Scally as a director.

American owner Brad Galinson wrote to shareholders informing them of the meeting, which will be held next month.

“Our investigations are ongoing and so we are unable to comment further at this stage,” the letter continued, according to KentOnline.

MK MEN SIGN NEW DEALS

Two key MK Dons players have signed new deals with the club.

Alex Gilbey and Joe Tomlinson have put pen to paper to extend their spells at Stadium MK.

Captain Gilbey said: “Everybody knows how I feel about this football club, so to get this deal done feels really good.”

MARINERS BOSS BLASTS REF

Grimsby Town boss David Artell did not hold back in his views about ref Geoff Eltringham following the Mariners’ 2-1 defeat to Chesterfield.

Artell and his assistant were booked, as were their Spireites opposite numbers, and the Grimsby boss let rip on BBC Humberside.

"His [the referee’s] ego got in the way. I kept my counsel a few weeks ago against Notts County. They are a disgrace. It cannot happen. This is a guy who is probably a milkman, a geography teacher, whatever. It is just not on.”

ROBINS STAR ON INTERNATIONAL SCORESHEET

One of the League Two players enjoying a memorable international break was Arkell Jude-Boyd of Cheltenham Town.

The wing-back scored on his debut for Saint Lucia in their 2-1 victory over Curacao.

Saint Lucia won the CONCACAF Nations League game despite the absence of captain Terell Thomas, the Carlisle United defender, who stayed with the Blues during the latest round of international games.

BUTTERWORTH’S TOWN GOAL

Former Carlisle United attacker Dan Butterworth has been reflecting on his first goal for Swindon Town.

Butterworth scored deep into added time to earn a 1-1 draw at Barrow.

“It’s always good to get the first one out of the way – you can build on it and it gives you a lot of confidence,” the ex-Blues man told his new club’s official outlets.

BOSS BACKS BASEMENT BATTLERS

Derek Adams has declared his faith in his Morecambe players despite the Shrimps losing their first five games without scoring.

The Shrimps, where ex-United captain Danny Grainger is assistant manager, have lost all their league matches 1-0 so far.

“I have managed teams in more than 700 games and I know this team is a good side,” Adams told The Visitor. “We just need a break which eventually we will get and, when we do, I think we will give a team a good roasting.”
