Carlisle United fell to a 3-2 defeat to Fleetwood Town – how did we rate the players at Brunton Park?
HARRY LEWIS – 5
Couldn’t lay a glove on Fleetwood’s three clinical finishes. United’s problems were further up the pitch in the build-up but nor did Lewis bail Carlisle out with any saves.
ARCHIE DAVIES – 4
Unable to offer much in first half, looked brighter during Blues’ fightback but later deliveries lacked accuracy.
CAMERON HARPER – 4
Among the number of players caught on the ball as Fleetwood got away from Carlisle in opening spell. Some better contributions later but not enough overall.
AARON HAYDEN – 4
Got United out of trouble on some occasions but Carlisle’s defending, both from their back line and midfield, was faulty and far too open.
SAM LAVELLE – 4
Similar to Hayden, some of his more reliable contributions were overwhelmed by the defensive openness that Fleetwood capitalised on.
DYLAN MCGEOUCH – 5
Lovely assist for Wyke’s leveller was one of United’s best moments, and in that period McGeouch looked good. Earlier, though, he had also been caught out in Carlisle’s disjointed start.
JON MELLISH – 4
Midfield experiment did not work in the first half, other than early break when he hit the post, returned to defence later but Carlisle were seldom secure. 5
HARRISON BIGGINS – 5
Threatened to link some attacks to positive effect at times but could not fully stamp himself onto the game to get United on top. 5
JORDAN JONES – 5
United had a chance when Jones ran at his man – winning the penalty that got them back into things – but there wasn’t enough substance over the 90 minutes.
DOMINIC SADI – 4
Other than a few flickers, the loanee was not able to add much creativity to United’s leaden first-half display, and he was hooked at half-time.
CHARLIE WYKE – 6
Good to see the captain finally off the mark with a penalty and clinical second. Either side, Wyke struggled for scraps but at least did his goalscoring job this time.
Subs: Luke Armstrong – Energy but end product lacked precision. 5
Josh Vela – Bit into tackles but not enough at end. 5
Harrison Neal – Late midfield arrival to little effect. 5
Freddie O’Donoghue – League debut for teen but little chance to make mark. 6
Star man – Charlie Wyke – Nobody in United colours put together a display you would call good enough for 90 minutes, but Wyke at least gave them hope with his finishing.
