Notts County have been hit with a serious injury to star winger Jodi Jones ahead of their trip to Carlisle United.

Jones has suffered a fractured tibia and has been ruled out until the new year.

The Magpies, who visit Brunton Park on Tuesday night, gave the update on the former Coventry City man on the eve of their trip to Brunton Park in League Two.

Jones suffered the injury in Notts' recent 1-0 home defeat to Gillingham.

His club announced: "Jodi Jones is likely to be unavailable until the new year after sustaining a small fracture to his tibia.

The winger couldn’t continue after receiving a heavy challenge in our recent league fixture against Gillingham and scans have revealed that he is facing a spell on the sidelines."

Jones also posted a statement after the injury was confirmed.

He suggested he deserved more "protection" from officials after the challenge from Gills forward Jacob Wakeling.

Jones said: "It hurts that little bit more when I'm constantly asking for more protection and for opposition players to not be allowed constant free hits.

"Unfortunately this is something that gets brushed aside and results in time off the pitch."

The 26-year-old is widely regarded as one of League Two's top players, having been named the PFA fourth-tier player of the season for 2023/24, and Jones has had to battle back from long-term injuries previously in his career.

He suffered three anterior cruciate knee ligament injuries between November 2017 and 2021.

The skilful wide man fought back and has become a key man for Notts, who are currently fourth in League Two after a strong start.

Malta international Jones scored four goals in their first seven games but the Magpies had to cope without him in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Morecambe.

Stuart Maynard's side have won four, drawn three and lost one so far in the league this campaign.
