Carlisle United have added two new coaches to Mike Williamson's backroom staff.

The Blues have brought in goalkeeping coach Tom Weal and head of performance Toby Frost.

Both coaches join the Blues from MK Dons, where they had worked under Williamson.

Weal replaces Glen Johnson, who announced his departure from Brunton Park at the weekend.

And Frost takes the place of Jake Simpson, the former head of performance who left the Blues along with father Paul, United's then manager, at the end of August.

The arrival of the duo was confirmed by the Blues ahead of Tuesday night's League Two clash at home to Notts County.

Head coach Williamson, speaking on the club website, said: "Both Tom and Toby will add real energy and detail to the group of coaching staff we have here.

“I’ve worked with them both before, and they are massive assets as people as well as professionals."

Williamson added: “I’d also like to thank Glen Johnson for his work since I arrived at the club.

"He was extremely professional and the way he conducted himself was different class.

"This kind of thing is the hardest part of football but we’d all like to wish him well in the future.”

Weal, 34, had a spell at Norwich City as a sports development officer then goalkeeping development centre lead coach before joining Huddersfield Town as academy goalkeeping coach.

He later had a spell in Nottingham Forest's academy before returning to Norwich, where he became head of academy goalkeeping in 2018.

After four and a half years at Carrow Road, Weal moved on to Notts County before linking up with Williamson at MK Dons this summer.

Frost, 27, has worked in rugby league with London Broncos and also spent nearly two years at Leicester City as physical performance coach.

He joined MK Dons as first team strength and conditioning coach in August 2023 and, after just over a year at Stadium MK, rejoins Williamson in Cumbria.

They are the latest new faces to join the staff at Brunton Park following last month's appointment of Williamson and his first-team coaches Ian Watson, Chris Bell and Carl Magnay, who also all followed the new Blues boss from MK Dons.
