Carlisle United's game at AFC Wimbledon looks set to be ON as the London club continue work to repair their flood-hit pitch.

The Dons have issued a positive update about the prospects of the game on Saturday, October 12 going ahead.

The club say work on the surface at the Cherry Red Records Stadium is on course to be completed early next week.

That, they say, means the game against the Blues "is set to proceed as scheduled" - United responding by opening away ticket sales for the game.

The Wimbledon pitch was badly affected by recent flooding, with a sinkhole opening up in one corner of the surface.

Other parts of the ground were also damaged by flooding, after the nearby River Wandle broke its banks on September 22.

The problems led Wimbledon's Carabao Cup home game against Newcastle United to be switched to St James' Park, the home of the Magpies.

A home league game was also postponed as the Dons began the recovery process.

But things appear to be progressing well.

In an update on their website, AFC Wimbledon said: "We are pleased to confirm that remedial pitch works are on track to be completed early next week, meaning our match against Carlisle United is set to proceed as scheduled on Saturday 12 October, kick-off 3pm.

"Our attenuation water tank beneath our pitch has now been resealed before layers of shingle, stone and sand were added to level the surface.

"Replacement turf will be placed on top of the 9.5 metres squared area currently exposed from the excavation, with these works scheduled for completion on Monday."

Wimbledon added that they areΒ "taking expert advice as to whether there is anything else we can do to protect the stadium should the same severe weather and river conditions reoccur."

They have also advised fans that lifts in the stadium are "highly likely" to be out of action at the Carlisle game.

Regarding the access issues this will cause, the club said: "We are hopeful of finding a way where everyone can join us for the match, and will do our utmost to make it work for every supporter affected."

United had delayed putting tickets on sale as they awaited an update from the Dons, but following the Wimbledon statement the Blues confirmed that tickets were now available online. They can be bought HERE.

There had also been fears that the game might fall victim to international call-ups in the home squad, but there has so far been no mention of that as Wimbledon strive to get the game on.

News that the game is poised to go ahead will also be good news for United's supporters club London Branch, who are hosting a 50th anniversary event at nearby Sutton Cricket Club next Saturday evening, which is set to be attended by club officials, former players and long-standing members.
