Jordan Jones has been ruled out for several weeks as Carlisle United’s injury woes go on.

A calf injury has sidelined the winger.

The former Wigan Athletic man suffered the problem in Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat to Notts County and a scan has revealed a muscle tear.

Jones was absent from the squad for Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Colchester United and head coach Mike Williamson later explained the 29-year-old would be out for "a few weeks".

“He’s picked up a little soleus [calf] tweak,” said the United boss.

“It was at the end of the [Notts] game. He felt something. He didn’t say [at the time] – he said he thought he would run it off, but towards the end it just stiffened up.

“He got scanned and unfortunately there’s a bit of an issue there. He’s going to be working hard to be back and he’ll be a big miss for us.”

Williamson said he hoped Jones would be back within the next month.

“I don’t know if it’s the best case – that’s what’s estimated,” the Blues boss told the News & Star.

“Hopefully he’s a quick healer, he does all the right things and we get him back before that.

“He’s been fantastic for us and we just want him back as quickly as we can.”

Jones has joined an ever-lengthening injury list at Brunton Park.

Already out are Dylan McGeouch, Aaron Hayden, Ethan Robson, Daniel Adu-Adjei, Taylor Charters, Georgie Kelly, Ben Williams, with Callum Guy also on the comeback trail from long-term injury.

Williamson said he hoped to have some of those players off the sidelines soon, but in the short-term Carlisle’s first-team numbers are further stretched.

“It’s a huge [challenge] – we’re down to our bare bones,” he said.

“But that’s life, and the spirit and character those boys showed [against Colchester] tells me there’s more than enough to get out of the position we’re in.”
