Mike Williamson hopes Carlisle United can shrug off a number of “knocks” for this weekend’s trip to AFC Wimbledon.

The Blues, whose squad has already been ravaged by injuries, are monitoring further issues ahead of the trip to south London according to head coach Mike Williamson.

Among them is captain Charlie Wyke, although Williamson expects the striker to be fit despite a neck problem.

He did not reveal which other players could be doubts but said they will be assessed closely before the journey to Wimbledon.

Williamson suggested “five or six” players had issues.

“We've got a few lads that took a few knocks [last] weekend,” he said.

“We’re going to have to assess them [today] and then probably more on Friday.

“I'm not going to speculate on anything.

“There are a couple that wouldn’t have been able to be involved [on Tuesday night against Wigan Athletic], but another couple where it was just about wanting to give them a rest and to give them every opportunity to be fully fit on Saturday.”

Wyke’s neck issue is an ongoing situation but not, Williamson said, something he expects to sideline the frontman, who will face one of his former clubs on Saturday.

“He's been carrying that for a while to be fair,” said Williamson of the injury issue.

“Obviously, he's a big, tough lad and I'm sure he'll be fine.

“But [leaving him out of the squad on Tuesday] was just a case of wanting to give him any opportunity to rest it and give him every chance to be fresh and ready for Saturday.”

As well as United’s injury absentees, the Cumbrians will also be without another former Wimbledon player on Saturday in Terell Thomas, who is on international duty with Saint Lucia for a CONCACAF Nations League double-header against Saint Martin.

“He was fantastic for us last weekend,” said Williamson.

“We wish him well – hopefully he goes there and plays, and comes back with a full bill of health, fingers crossed.”
