A WEST Cumbrian women's rugby team will take part in a major promotion final this week - as the club have said that the women have been 'a credit to the club' during their first competitive year.
The Workington Town Ladies RLFC will play in the Women's League Two Play Off Final this weekend at the Millennium Stadium in Pontefract- a ground that is home to Featherstone Rovers.
The town side have already been victorious this season plate final and league leader's shield winners - as they look to Sunday, October 13 and their game against Orrell St James ARLFC to secure promotion.
During their first competitive year in Women's Rugby League League Two the team have been an inspiration for girls’ rugby around the county following their glowing season, with many local youth teams starting girls' sides.
The club have said that the ladies have 'one grand final hurdle' to overcome - as all at Workington Town wish them the best of luck in the major game.
Interim Chairman at Workington Town RLFC Graeme Peers said: "We are extremely proud of the Workington Town Ladies RLFC teams achievements this year. The team has gone from strength to strength and after winning the plate final and then the league leaders shield they have one grand final hurdle to overcome.
"Huge credit must go to the coaching team of Stee Caton, Gareth Nicholson and the team management of Sue Grimley.
"They have helped create a culture of winning and determination as well as a great team culture who have been a credit to Workington Town RLFC, we wish them the best of luck and hopefully we achieve what we deserve with victory on Sunday.
"We're aware there are many Townies heading to Featherstone to give them their support!"
The Workington Town Ladies RLFC will play Orrell St James ARLFC at the Millenium Stadium this Sunday, October 13 with the game starting at 1pm.
