AFC Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson insisted Carlisle United are a “good scalp” for his side.

The Dons thrashed the Blues 4-0 to send Mike Williamson’s side to the bottom of the EFL.

Wimbledon dominated the first half and led 3-0 at the break before Matty Stevens completed his hat-trick with a fourth early in the second half.

Carlisle’s display was dire but Jackson maintained the Blues are better than they showed in south London.

“These are a good team,” Jackson said of United.

“We made them look quite ordinary but that’s a good scalp and a top performance.

“We stopped them being able to hurt us.”

Wimbledon’s fourth straight home win this season in League Two took them up to tenth, while they have three games in hand on many clubs as a consequence of the recent flooding which hit the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

Saturday’s game was their first back at their repaired ground for more than a month – their previous home game a 3-0 win over Williamson’s MK Dons – and Jackson said they were delighted to be back home.

“We spoke about it all week, that we’re back on our own patch and we’ve missed it,” he added in a club interview.

“It’s been a difficult few weeks so it was important that we used it to our advantage.

“We had that energy about us, we were on the front foot.”

Jackson praised Stevens’ finishing prowess and his pressing at the front of the Wimbledon side – while he was also pleased the Dons did not give Carlisle a consolation in the closing stages.

Jon Colman's big match verdict on Carlisle United's thrashing by AFC Wimbledon

“You’re looking at the clock, and we knew the game was safe, but I want the boys to be relentless in what we’re doing,” he added.

“At half-time, we were 3-0 up and we spoke about [the fact that] a good team goes and takes the game away from the opposition in the second half. We did that.

“We were relentless in what we were doing, and that includes going to the 94th minute, getting a clean sheet rather that coming off it, feeling your job’s done because you’ve got that lead.”
