A pair of Cumbrian brothers are 'over the moon' after being crowned British Sidecar Champions.

Sam and Jack Laidlow from Dufton, near Appleby have been crowned the youngest ever British Sidecar Champions, capping off their incredible debut year in the 2024 British Sidecar Championship.

Sidecar racing sees two racers operate a Formula One Sidecar which sports a purpose-built chassis and motorcycle engine.

The pair have battled it out across the UK at circuits like Knockhill and Donington Park, however, in the final round of the championship which took place at Brands Hatch between Friday, October 11 and Sunday, October 13 the brothers claimed their prize.

After the pair completed their dream debut year in the British Sidecar Championship, their father Andrew Laidlow was on hand to explain more about the dramatic race weekend.

He said: "The race on Saturday did not go quite to plan and they finished fourth and went into Sunday with only a half a point lead in the British Championship.

"Because of the poor result on Saturday, they were further back on the grid and had a lot of work to do.

"The final race was shortened due to an accident so they had eight laps to close a five-second gap to the team they had to catch to win the Championship.

"By lap four there was still a four-second gap but Sam said the bike felt good and they put the hammer down and caught the team in third place to win the British Championship, it was amazing."

He said: "They are the youngest ever team to win the British Sidecar Championship as Sam is only 19 and Jack is 21 and it is phenomenal.

"After Saturday we thought the Championship was gone but on Sunday the lads got up and decided that they wanted to be British Champions.

"The lads have really knuckled in, got themselves race-fit, and have worked so hard and have dreamed of winning the British Championship and in their first year have taken it by storm.

"The lads are just over the moon."

Jack and Sam travel to Portugal for the final round of the 2024 FIM Sidecar World Championship in November with their sites set on making their mark on the international stage in 2025.

"Next year we are going for a full attack on the World Championship and we are going to give a 100 per cent go," Andrew said

"We are going to be in the British Championship again but now we want to have a proper go at the World Championship."
