It would be very easy, and probably very welcome by some, for the rest of this piece to chastise the players and/or the coaching team for Saturday's performance vs Wimbledon.

Likewise, it would be very easy to look at the previous management team, transfer windows and recruitment policies and throw further dirt at them. Some have done exactly this over the last few days on social media, in group chats or in the pub.

Unfortunately it doesn’t change the fact we are currently 92nd in the English Football League.

Mike Williamson and his team have been with us for less than ten games. In the first four league games under their leadership, we saw signs of improvement in different areas of the performance - whether that was the way we held possession, the way we looked to build plays or the number of chances created.

However we describe it, Saturday’s visit to Wimbledon did not show signs of progression and it hurt fans, players and staff alike but does that mean the wheels of the new approach have fallen off? Does that mean the footballing journey the club has started on needs scrapped and rewritten? No and no again.

Yes, football is a results business. Everybody at the club understands this and is working hard to achieve that. There is no illusion that not picking up more points than we currently have is acceptable. Getting more points on the board is the primary focus.

Alongside this, though, the way we play, the way we set up for attacks and the way we are structured as a football club and academy system is moving towards an end goal. There will be bumps along this road but these changes are required and will build a stronger club for the future where a change of manager, head coach or sporting director will not throw the whole show into turmoil and the scramble of old to reset will be no more.

Injured players will return and offer support, the coaching team will develop systems and styles of play that suit our squad's abilities and we will pick up points. We’re confident in this, and Mike Williamson’s record in over 200 plus league games supports this.

The biggest task we face as fans right now is buckling down. It’s a massive ask and sometimes it will not seem doable but Carlisle United fans have experience in adversity by the bucket load. We can still be the steadying hand that offers the unwavering support, atmosphere and the passion that we are so used to and sustainable success as a football team, that is enjoyable to watch along the way, is more than achievable together.

Our next opportunity to do this is this coming Saturday vs Harrogate and ticket prices have been slashed - https://carlisleunitedfc.ktckts.com/event/car2425h06/carlisle-united-v-harrogate-town- Let’s get Brunton Park packed and get the fightback started!
