MORE than 150 people competed in a karate championship in Penrith.
The annual Chojinkai event, held at the leisure centre, saw 160 entrants from eight clubs take part.
The competition also saw several Dan Grade awards.
Ray Hind from Carlisle achieved 7th Dan, Mark from Carlisle reached 6th Dan, and John Ramage from Wigton Club was awarded 4th Dan.
The course was conducted by the Chojinkai senior grading panel, headed by founder and 9th Dan Doug James.
"Together with Darren Longstaff, presently 6th Dan, they are our Senior Association instructors and have been training with Chojinkai 41, 25, 20 and 43 years respectively," Doug said.
