Mike Williamson says there is a “possibility” of movement in the free agent market at Carlisle United.

The head coach says the Blues are speaking to potential signings.

Williamson stressed nothing had yet been finalised as he said “plates are spinning” regarding the unattached player market.

Carlisle, who are currently bottom of League Two, are looking at their options amid ongoing injury problems, although the return of some players has eased that situation slightly.

Williamson has consistently said he would not rule out adding to his squad but has also maintained that it must be looked at carefully.

Asked if anything was in the pipeline, the Blues head coach said: “There’s a possibility. We’re speaking.

“But there’s nothing over the line [at the moment].

“There are a few options but ultimately we just want to bring in lads that are really going to add to the starting line-up.

“That’s hard – but yes, we want energy and we want pace and we want somebody that can hurt the back line.

“But we also want to make sure it's the right people because we know the quality we've got in here and we've got a lot of lads that are coming back from injury.

“They've got a lot of quality and that's why they're not in the free market.

“So we've just got to make sure that we first and foremost we do it right with our boys and then anything that crops up, we'll make decisions on.”

Carlisle are set to be boosted by the return of midfielder Ethan Robson from the sidelines this weekend.

He has trained fully this week and could be in the squad to face Harrogate Town, having been out since pre-season with a hamstring injury.

Aaron Hayden is also set to return “in the next week or two”, while Callum Guy and Taylor Charters have recently made their comebacks.

But Archie Davies (shoulder) has joined the injury list which also includes Dylan McGeouch, Ben Williams, Daniel Adu-Adjei, Jordan Jones and Georgie Kelly.
