Carlisle United’s Sam Hetherington made his second Workington Reds debut on Saturday in a losing cause.

The teenage attacking midfielder went straight into the Reds squad for their trip to Hyde United in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.

And Hetherington, named among the substitutes a day after his loan move was confirmed, was called into action before half-time.

The 18-year-old was introduced in the 37th minute after an injury to Dav Symington.

Reds twice came from behind, goals from ex-Blues Steven Rigg and Kai Nugent pulling them back to 2-2 before a last-minute Jack Redshaw penalty inflicted a 3-2 defeat.

Hetherington’s fellow United loanees Jake Allan and Aran Fitzpatrick were not involved at Ewen Fields. Next for 15th-placed Reds and their trio of Carlisle teenagers is a trip to Stockton Town on Wednesday.
