Carlisle United fans gave us their views on X after the 3-1 defeat at Walsall - here's a selection of their comments.

Has anything really improved? The stats mean absolutely nothing. Possession is meaningless unless you score. As to defending....we are hopeless. Another game and goals scored at the beginning of each half. Our form is dire, has been for a year, we are going down, again. (@BruceVander)

Awful - majority of the players don’t look bothered, made little effort to block any of the shots, can’t pass, can’t tackle, can’t score, can’t create anything...dreadful combination (@CumbrianGeoff)

We are in a desperate situation, we have a group of players who are incapable of playing the style of football the management are coaching & we have a coach that is incapable of recognising that, the outcome is the performance and result tonight! Relegation beckons. (@MarkWard18)

Long way from convinced with Williamson continually talking post-match about amount of endeavour, spirit and fight the players showed in game. Even if we did then it was last 15 minutes of game at most, when opposition have taken their foot massively off the gas with game won. (@tashkentterror)

The folk that predicted we would struggle at the start of the season weren't so wrong now. (@daverigg)

Conceding in the first 4 minutes of each half has done us absolutely no favours but I do think the real problem lies further up the pitch than with any defender, in fact I thought our defenders offered the most attacking threat all night ! We have to sort out the final third (@josephscott2005)

In the context of the battle to avoid relegation, which is going to go on all season, losing to Walsall away is not particularly significant. Giving goals away, and not having a strike force to get them back, is very significant, and will do for us, unless both aspects get sorted (@MikeEwins)

I'll be happy if I never hear the word "endeavour" again. Totally shot ourselves in the foot and Williamson's team selection and defensive setup were absolutely baffling. (@leerooney)

There is nothing positive to say about that performance. Giving away silly goals, making stupid passes, lacking pace and creativity up front. It's a recipe for disaster, can't see us turning this around any time soon as the new manager bounce is more like a thud! (@cumbrianbluess)

Same old, same old. Lots of possession, can't convert it into goal scoring opportunities, then switching off again to concede goals. We are in huge trouble. (@RichW_27)

We're in serious trouble. Those who insisted on another transfer window for Simmo have put us here. Don't have the players to deliver the style MW is sticking with. I don't see him changing that philosophy or the Piataks removing him. Sadly, relegation beckons (@stewelsh)

Depressing. Don't know where to start - one obvious thing tonight was that frayed nerves and lack of confidence has spread through the whole team. Whether we play long ball or keep-ball, if the players aren't able to do the simple things, then the tactics are irrelevant. (@elpnr)

Yeovil, Chesterfield, Stockport, Forest Green. As much as we all hope we'll turn this around, the stats are not in our favour . I think it's time the club acknowledged the seriousness of the situation. (@mikebcarlisle)

We can’t pin our hopes on anything significant happening in January -who Is going to want to come to us for anything other than money ?…what other manager would want to come to us In this state? (@Paulwal93886844)

Get him gone. Players are embarrassing but he hasn’t got and won’t get a tune out of them. We can have all the behind the scenes improvement but it doesn’t matter compared to what’s on the pitch…and there’s been some shocking decisions on that side (@AdWhitfield94)

It’s like Groundhog Day! The owners can’t allow this to go on. Swallow your pride and terminate Williamson’s contract! Then, take some proper advice and get a manager in, who can sort this lot out. (@MikeTurney7)

U just can't help to feel that the appointment of Williamson was based on the MK Dons result. It seems a poor appointment at the moment. Relegation is more than likely which will be a shame. Get Nigel Pearson in tomorrow. (@timvg123)

I'd like to offer something meaningful. But that defeat leaves me unable to string a sentence together without multiple expletives. No idea how it's got so bad, but right now Rome is burning. Nero needs to put down the fiddle. (@buzzisbackCUFC)

Playing it around at the back for no apparent reason then crossing the half way line but having no clue how to penetrate the opposition final third so deciding to return to playing it around at the back for no apparent reason is not a recipe for winning football matches. Clueless (@Wisey6575)

Expected nothing, got nothing and drank a bottle but for the wrong reasons (@fatflags)

One ticket for National League please (@karl72465)

I sat with away fans tonight, great experience with an unbelievable following for a Tuesday night, they stuck with the team all game and their support and loyalty is very humbling (@KitmanPat)

Expecting lots of poor takes tonight from fans, but truth is that these are effective players undone tonight by bizarre tactics, not short of effort but short of a defensive system that doesn’t require our centre backs to play as wingers leaving our goal exposed (@JHallHDI)

Abbott and his recruitment culpable for this. Williamson inherited a tough position although trying go play football with arguably worst squad of players in my lifetime is not going to work (@MarkDen40725244)

We are so open at the back, whilst opponents are always massed. Sadly the plan of playing with no wingers has made us have no width. Saturday is now a must win, even this early in the season. And survival, not promotion, is the aim for the season. (@cufcman56)
