Mike Williamson says he’s been reassured by the Piataks that funds are available if the Carlisle United squad needs more help.

The Blues head coach says he has spoken “a lot” to United’s American owners during their latest visit to Carlisle.

United’s season remains in extremely worrying territory with the team second bottom of League Two after 13 games and criticism from fans increasing.

Williamson says he has been told by the Piataks that they will offer support in whatever way it is needed.

“We’ve spoken a lot, I've had a lot of time with them,” said the United boss, whose side host Cheltenham Town on Saturday.

“Obviously you can see everything that's happening off the field which is really important for the football club, the investment they're making – and [on the pitch] we've brought Tyler [Burey] in.

“There's funds there if we feel like we need support and help.

“In terms of what they've brought us in to do, they know it's going to be a process but of course they're like anyone, they are fans as well and they are desperate for us to turn it around.

“The conversations are [along the lines of] whatever we need in that is what they will do.

“So they've been brilliant and it's just down to us and the players now to keep making sure we work, we grind and see what comes in January.”

Williamson has not ruled out more business in the free agent market before January, but says the accent must mainly be on working with the current squad to improve United’s fortunes.

“We’ve got more than enough quality in our squad,” he said. “The standard of the players we've got in is more than enough, so we know the focus is on the coaching and the improvement.

“Of course if people come available we're not going to turn our nose up at that, we need as much help and support as we possibly can, but what we know is the lads we've got at the minute are working extremely hard and we've got enough quality to turn it around.”
