Mike Williamson says a "collective" response is needed to the latest defeat - and Harry Lewis's mistake will not be singled out.

And the Carlisle United head coach has declared his faith in the goalkeeper – and his team-mates – to respond in the right way to the Cheltenham game.

The key moment in the Cumbrians’ 1-0 defeat came when Lewis’ save from Ethon Archer’s shot then spun towards goal, with the keeper unable to prevent it from slipping into the net.

It was the latest miserable moment in United’s struggling season.

But head coach Williamson said he would not single out Lewis either for criticism or special attention in terms of responding to the incident.

Asked about his approach to the keeper in light of the goal – with some fans now arguing for Gabe Breeze to be given a chance in goal – Williamson said: “[I will deal with it] like I deal with all the boys right now.

“They're all hurt and they're all in a bad place. They're all wanting to be the difference and to be the one that changes everything around.

“That's why I've got full confidence and belief in them.

“We’re in it as a collective and there's more than that one mistake happening [on Saturday] and in the past.

“H [Lewis] is someone who will give everything and he will find a way out, and he knows that it will make him stronger, just [the same] as every single player on that pitch and all the boys that come off the bench.”

Such has been the regular selection change, injuries and struggle at United this season, Lewis is the club’s only remaining league starting ever-present this season after just 14 games. Jon Mellish has featured in all the league games too, but two of his appearances have been from the substitutes’ bench.
