Charlie Wyke has pledged to do all it takes to make a successful return from the "devastating" injury that has ended his season.
It was revealed yesterday that the Carlisle United captain has suffered a fracture and dislocation to his left ankle.
The striker needs an operation and will not play again in 2024/25.
It is a hammer blow for the 31-year-old and the club.
But Wyke, commenting on the injury for the first time, has said he is ready to do all that it takes to make a successful return - whilst also expressing his thanks for the many messages of support he has received.
Posting on Instagram, Wyke said: "I am devastated with the extent of my injury, once I have had surgery on my leg/ankle, I am willing to do everything I can to get back, it is going to be a long process but I have came back from a lot worse so lets see what the future holds.
"I also want to say a big thankyou to the players, staff, fans, manager and my friends and family for the support.
"A special thankyou to my wife for being my rock & looking after me bed bound 😘
"I hope to see you soon Cumbrians and watch the lads climb that table I have no doubt we can turn this around ⚽️
"Thankyou 💙."
Wyke suffered the injury in a challenge from Cheltenham Town midfielder Luke Young during last weekend's 1-0 defeat, less than 15 minutes after he had come on as a substitute at the start of the second half.
The frontman had scored twice in 14 appearances since returning to Carlisle on a two-year deal in the summer.
Wyke, in recent years, has returned from the cardiac arrest he suffered whilst with previous club Wigan Athletic.
Carlisle have pledged to give the striker their full support in his latest recovery.
“He’s got the complete support of everyone at the football club, and we’ll help him through this in whatever way we can," said head coach Mike Williamson.
Young fans at the club's 'festival of football' on Wednesday gathered to send a 'get well soon' message to the striker.
