Carlisle United boss Mike Williamson has confirmed the club are in talks to sign Kadeem Harris.
The former Sheffield Wednesday and Cardiff City midfielder has been training with the Blues.
And head coach Williamson hopes to seal a deal for the 31-year-old free agent.
Williamson said the situation was “progressing” with international clearance being sought as the Blues try to complete the signing of Harris.
He was most recently playing in Turkey with Sanliurfaspor, having previously played for other Turkish clubs as well as Ukrainian outfit Metallist Kharkhiv.
The London-born player, who can operate in attacking midfield or at wing-back, last played in England with Sheffield Wednesday in 2021.
Williamson did not rule out the prospect of Harris joining in time for Saturday’s FA Cup first round clash with Wigan Athletic, depending on the progress of talks.
“We’re working on it,” the head coach told the News & Star.
“He's been in this week and he's done really well.
“He's got the experience, he's got quality and we’re working hard on it now – he’s somebody that we would love to bring in.
“As far as his experience goes, he's already had a bit of an impact with the lads, which is good. Hopefully we can get something sorted as soon as possible.”
Harris, who was part of the Blues squad that took part in an open training session watched by fans at Wednesday’s ‘festival of football’ has plenty of experience at Championship level and Williamson believes he can be an asset in a number of positions.
“He's an explosive offensive player when he's played,” said the Blues boss.
“He can play number eight, number ten, he can play wing-back. He carries the ball really well, so he'll just support us carrying the ball at the pitch and give us that quality and hopefully enter in the final third.”
Harris would be the second signing made by Williamson after last month's arrival of fellow free agent Tyler Burey.
