Carlisle United lost 2-0 to Wigan Athletic after extra-time in the FA Cup first round – so how did we rate the players at Brunton Park?
GABE BREEZE – 8
What an introduction to the side. The Cumbrian made excellent saves, and showed composure and character in all his work. Must surely start at Salford.
TERELL THOMAS – 8
A superb display from the centre-half, who was excellent in the air and made positive and fluent decisions on the ground; could not have done more.
SAM LAVELLE – 7
A couple of vital interceptions prevented Wigan from getting the advantage, and he was part of a wholehearted defensive effort throughout.
AARON HAYDEN – 7
It was a display that required sharpness and commitment at the back, and there was plenty of that from Hayden before he went off in second half.
JON MELLISH – 7
Back in the side and showed all his typical drive to try and get United on the front foot before the game turned into a rearguard effort.
HARRISON NEAL – 7
Played every minute in an exhausting midfield task and Neal was at the forefront with challenges, clearances and covering plenty of ground.
ETHAN ROBSON – 6
Barely had the chance to make his mark on the game before his challenge on Sessegnon led to a straight red card decision which infuriated Carlisle.
DOMINIC SADI – 7
The young loanee showed plenty of character in his defensive efforts, and was one stunning Tickle save away from taking the tie to penalties.
TAYLOR CHARTERS – 6
Made some good runs in the opening stages and a killer final touch could have unlocked Wigan, before he was replaced in second half as Carlisle shored up.
TYLER BUREY – 7
His pace and aggressive running gave United the kind of wide outlet they’ve too often lacked, before he cramped up and had to go off.
DANIEL ADU-ADJEI – 6
A committed return to the side, Adu-Adjei’s running and persistence gave United a good first line of defence before he was replaced on the hour.
Subs: Jack Ellis – 6 – Grew into it against tricky opponent and played a good part in things.
Luke Armstrong – 6 – Led line in closing stages and came close to dramatic goal.
Cameron Harper – 7 – Some good runs and testing deliveries.
Jack Robinson – 6 – Gave his all in defiant effort.
Ben Barclay – 6 – Joined late salvo.
Star man – Gabe Breeze – an impressive, eyecatching performance from the Cumbrian keeper, who has made a very strong case for a first-team run.
