Kadeem Harris will be a Carlisle United player once the Blues receive international clearance.

The free agent has agreed a deal to join the Cumbrians.

And Mike Williamson hopes to have the ex-Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday man available for United’s next league game.

The head coach said everything has been finalised with the 31-year-old with international clearance the remaining hurdle.

Harris, who last played in Turkey, has been training with United and talks came to a positive conclusion on Friday.

“We agreed everything [on Friday], so we were vaguely hopeful for [him to be able to play on Saturday], but it hadn't come through [in time],” said Williamson.

“We’re desperately trying to get it done for next week.”

Harris was at Brunton Park to watch his new team-mates in the 2-0 extra-time FA Cup first round defeat to Wigan Athletic.

That follows his appearance on the training ground last week, including in Wednesday’s open session watched by fans as part of United’s ‘festival of football’.

Harris, who can play in attacking midfield or at wing-back, is well known to Williamson from the Blues boss’s own playing days.

“He was a young lad at Wycombe when I was there,” said Williamson of a player who came through the youth ranks at Adams Park.

“Everybody we spoke to has just given him a glowing reference.

“He's come in and he's embodied that. He's a mature guy, he's played at a very good level, he's got a lot of experience, but mainly it's his quality.

“We need to try and find ways of manufacturing goals and chances, and we're in a difficult period, so I think his experience and his quality will really help us.”
