Midfielder Harrison Biggins is set to be ruled out for “a couple of weeks” as the latest player to join Carlisle United’s injury list.

The Shrewsbury Town loanee missed Saturday’s FA Cup first round defeat to Wigan Athletic with a calf problem.

Head coach Mike Williamson is relieved that it is not a serious or long-term problem.

But in the short term he will be without the 28-year-old for United’s return to League Two action.

“He’s had a scan and I think it’s low grade, so it shouldn't be too long, but at the minute he's not fit,” Williamson told the News & Star.

“I think we're talking about a couple of weeks, but he’s young, he's fit and he's a quick healer, so it's just day by day at the minute.”

Biggins will miss next weekend’s trip to Salford City when the Blues will look to build on their battling display against the League One Latics.

Their injury problems have been eased somewhat with the return of players such as Callum Guy, Taylor Charters, Daniel Adu-Adjei and Ethan Robson in recent weeks.

But Robson’s red card against Wigan leaves him at risk of joining Biggins on the sidelines at Salford unless Carlisle get the decision overturned.

Dylan McGeouch is progressing closer to a return from injury.

United’s new sporting director Rob Clarkson, meanwhile, is due officially to start work at the club today.

Williamson said he is looking forward to working closely with the former Rangers, Manchester City and England man.

“The quicker he's in and the quicker he assesses everything [the better],” said the head coach.

“We've got lots of work to do, so I can't over-emphasise that. I'm excited to get to work with him, because we know there's a lot to do.”
