Carlisle United won 1-0 at Salford City – so how did we rate the players at the Peninsula Stadium?
GABE BREEZE – 7
A first league start since January, the young Cumbrian was tested with crosses and had to make a couple of sharp saves to claim a well-earned clean sheet.
AARON HAYDEN – 7
Carlisle were far from error-free early on but their base-line defending was as good as was needed, and Hayden played a resolute part.
TERELL THOMAS – 7
After his outstanding display against Wigan, Thomas again put in a sound and committed defensive shift, taking few risks overall.
SAM LAVELLE – 8
Did not put a foot wrong in the battling defensive effort as Carlisle dug in under early pressure, before turning the tide in the second half.
JON MELLISH – 6
In the wing-back role, Mellish worked hard even if his touch was sometimes off. His engine helped Carlisle go the distance to win the game.
HARRISON NEAL – 7
After a couple of early shakes and a first half on back foot, Neal grew into the game and made a couple of crucial blocks to cap a hard-working midfield performance.
CALLUM GUY – 6
It was hard going in the early stages and the industrious Guy and his colleagues seldom got on top of the midfield contest in the first half, Salford often bypassing that area.
TYLER BUREY – 7
Certainly earned his corn with a committed wing-back display, which was as much about Burey’s defensive determination as his attacking attributes.
DOMINIC SADI – 7
The loanee was sharp enough to win the corner that led to the all-important goal, and often found useful positions as Carlisle grew into things.
LUKE ARMSTRONG – 6
Missed the one good chance that came his way, it was otherwise a toiling afternoon for the frontman before he was replaced for closing stages.
DANIEL ADU-ADJEI – 6
Never stopped trying to pressure the Salford defence even if Tilt had his number for the most part. Kept going to the end as Carlisle finally struck.
Subs: Cameron Harper – 6 – Some testing deliveries from right.
Harrison Biggins – 7 – Supplied excellent corner that won it.
Kadeem Harris – 7 – Bright attacking cameo.
Ben Barclay – 7 – Dramatic winner could prove huge for United.
Star man – Sam Lavelle – Good, durable performances across the pitch but Lavelle deserves high praise for a defensive showing of game-long resolve.
